The Summer No One Talks About: Finding Yourself While Raising Everyone Else

  • May 26
  • 2 min read

School’s out.

And just like that…your time isn’t your own again.

The days get longer.

The house gets louder.

The snacks disappear faster than you can buy them.

And somewhere between the sunscreen, the carpooling, the “mom watch this,” and the constant what are we doing today…

you quietly disappear into the background.

The Unspoken Truth About Summer

Summer is supposed to feel:✨ carefree✨ fun✨ memory-filled

But for moms?

It can also feel like:

  • never sitting down

  • never being alone

  • never finishing a thought

Because when your kids are home…

you are ON. all. day.

There’s no break.

No reset.

No quiet drive home to collect yourself.

Just… constant need.

The Millennial Mom Dilemma

We WANT to:

  • make it magical

  • be present

  • soak it all in

But we also desperately need:

  • space

  • quiet

  • a second to breathe

And instead of saying that out loud…

we tell ourselves:“I’ll rest later.”

But later never comes.

KO TRUTH: You Matter This Summer Too

Not just your kids.

Not just the memories.

Not just the plans.

YOU.

And no one is going to hand you time for yourself.

You have to take it.

What “Time for Yourself” Actually Looks Like

Let’s be clear…

We’re not talking about:

✨ all-day spa days

✨ perfectly planned self-care routines

We’re talking about REAL LIFE.

It looks like:

  • sitting in your car for 10 extra minutes in silence

  • waking up before everyone else (even if it’s painful 😅)

  • going for a walk alone

  • saying “no” to one more thing

  • letting your kids be bored so you can breathe

And Yes… You Might Feel Guilty

Because that’s what we do, right?

We think:

  • “I should be doing more”

  • “I should be with them”

  • “I should be making this special”

But here’s the truth no one says loud enough:

A regulated mom creates a better summer than an exhausted one.

You Are Not Just “Mom”

You are:

  • a person

  • a woman

  • someone who had thoughts, interests, and space before motherhood

And summer has a way of making you forget that.

So this is your reminder:

You are allowed to:

✔️ step away

✔️ take a break

✔️ need quiet

✔️ not be needed every second

The Summer Shift

Instead of asking:“How do I make this perfect for them?”

Try asking:“How do I make this sustainable for me?”

Because when YOU feel okay…everything else flows better.

KO TRUTH TALK

One day…

This house won’t be this loud.

They won’t need you this much.

The chaos will quiet down.

But that doesn’t mean you have to lose yourself in it right now.

So this summer…

Make the memories.

Laugh with them.

Stay up a little too late.

But also?

Find yourself in the middle of it.

Even if it’s just for a few minutes a day.

Because you’re not just raising a life…

you still have one too. 🤍
