Surviving “Maycember” Without Losing Your Mind

There’s a time of year that no one really prepares you for…

And no, it’s not Christmas.

It’s May.

Or as moms everywhere know it…

Maycember. 😅

Because somehow, in a matter of a few weeks, life goes from manageable…

to absolute chaos.

Field days.

End-of-year parties.

Award ceremonies.

Class projects.

Teacher gifts.

Sports banquets.

Dance recitals.

Spirit days.

“Don’t forget to send in…” emails every other hour.

And all of it?

Happening at the same time.

It’s like December…but with sunscreen, pollen, and a lot more carpool lines.

Why Does It Feel So Heavy?

Because it’s not just the events.

It’s the pressure.

The pressure to:

  • show up to everything

  • make it special

  • not forget anything

  • keep everyone happy

And on top of that…

You’re still:

  • making meals

  • running your home

  • showing up for your family

  • and trying to keep up with everyday life

It’s a lot.

And if you’ve felt overwhelmed this month…

You’re not the only one.

You Don’t Have to Do It All

We’re going to say something that might feel a little uncomfortable:

You don’t have to do everything.

Not every event.

Not every extra.

Not every expectation.

It’s okay to choose what matters most for your family.

It’s okay to say:

  • “We’re going to skip this one.”

  • “This is enough.”

  • “We don’t need to do it all to make it meaningful.”

Because the truth is…

Your kids won’t remember if you showed up to every single thing.

But they will remember:

  • how you made them feel

  • if you were present

  • if life felt joyful or stressful

A Few Ways We’re Surviving Maycember

Not perfectly… just realistically 😅

1. Pick your priorities

Not everything gets a “yes.”

2. Lower the bar (a little)

Store-bought is fine. Simple is fine. Done is better than perfect.

3. Build in breathing room

Not every minute needs to be filled.

4. Laugh when things go sideways

Because they will. And honestly? That’s part of the story.

Let Summer Start a Little Early

Here’s your permission slip:

You don’t have to wait until school is out to slow down.

You can start now.

Say no to one thing.

Sit outside a little longer.

Let dinner be simple.

Let the house be a little messy.

Let life feel a little lighter.

If You’re in the Middle of Maycember…

Take a deep breath.

You’re doing more than enough.

Your kids are loved.

Your presence matters.

And this season?

It will pass — even if it feels a little wild right now. 😅

XOXO-
